REA member Michael Waggoner (University of Northern Iowa) has edited a new book that perfectly fits this year’s meeting theme, “Coming Out Religiously: Religion, the Public Sphere, and Religious Identity Formation.” Noting that public education is one of the few places “where Americans can meet together to learn about each other and to share in the common construction of our futures,” Religion in the Public Schools: Negotiating the New Commons has been hailed as a “volume that speaks both to the challenges of free expression in public education as well to actual classroom approaches for furthering the ideal of religious literacy.”
Congratulations, Michael, and thank you for this timely contribution to our field! (Purchase Religion in the Public Schools through the REA Bookstore and the Association will receive a portion of the profits.)
