Choose your ride and get your free ticket for October 23–25, 2015. The CARNIVAL will spark critical dialogue through art, performance, music, theatre, and social action that challenges dominant norms, inequities and conceptions of knowledge in western society and provokes action for systemic change and a more egalitarian world.
The CARNIVAL draws on UNESCO’s four pillars of adult education: Learning to be, Learning to do, Learning to know, and Learning to live together. The CARNIVAL recognizes that critical adult education embodies multiple forms and is interdisciplinary by nature. It seeks to unite academia, activists and practitioners from diverse backgrounds and fields who engage, empower and transform with the ultimate goal of creating a better world.
Engaged citizens who are playing with critical pedagogy, research and/or action in areas such as anti-oppression/racism, colonialism/decolonization, globalisation, neoliberalism, community development, gender relations, LGBTQ, cultural diversity, environmental issues, critical literacy, ally work, and the connections between them all are warmly welcomed. The playground can range, but is not limited to universities, colleges, community and non-governmental organisations and agencies, museums, libraries, art galleries, adult education and literacy programmes.
The deadline for proposals is Sept. 15, 2015.
We encourage presentations and workshops using art, performance, metissage, spoken word, theatre, music, and dance. Pinch a maximum of 300 word description or short video telling us what you are showcasing, clearly making the link to the CARNIVAL theme. What would you like to do? A presentation, performance, poster, teach-in, art installation or workshop? Let us know!
