About the Position
This position reports to the Provost and is responsible for the oversight and coordination of field-based experiences for all professional education placements for the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC). The Director of Ministry and Context serves as the institutional liaison to ITC special programs and the larger community and is responsible for teaching and supervising the ministry and context courses. The Ministry and Context Director provides leadership, planning, direction and management for key areas, including working with specific degree coordinators and the QEP Director to coordinate placements, sites and supervision; development, implementation and evaluation of strategic direction and overall management of daily operations of the Ministry and Context program. The Ministry and Context Director will work closely with staff to ensure collaboration, support and strategic alignment of common goals, and will represent his/her staff in meetings with the Provost, Deans, Directors and other ITC representatives, as needed.
Overview
Specific duties include, but are not limited to: Supervision/Management: Provide leadership and supervision in the areas of Ministry and Context courses for academic degrees; screens and trains supervisors to ensure that educational and security standards of the ITC are met; works with prospective placement site personnel to identify and maintain successful field experiences; supervises degree candidates in their student practicum, internships and/or capstone field experience including performing analysis of site and site facilitator appropriateness/eligibility; effectively determine, allocate and coordinate internal resources; conduct performance assessments annually; manage and maintain operating budget for the Ministry and Context area.
Strategy
In collaboration with the Provost and other team members, recommend and implement long and short-term strategic goals and operational plans that complement the overall direction and vision for Ministry and Context. Coordinate a team to achieve identified, measurable, strategic goals. Collaborate with staff to develop and implement an overall strategic plan for implementation of processes to meet the ITC’s goals. Develop an overall strategic plan for a multi-faceted and best practice Ministry and Context program. Assess and review special programs.
The incumbent will also be responsible for the following:
- Create a sustainable plan that communicates opportunities for student practical engagement with special programs
- Establish systems and procedures to ensure data integrity in the maintenance of reports
- Increase opportunities for field/site experiences
- Development and management of a field experience database which includes eligibility criteria, certification requirements, demographics and contact information
Communications
Lead the development of overall communication and relationships with local/regional stakeholders, agencies and organizations and identify key opportunities for recruitment and maintenance of viable site placements for the ecclesial, community and academic placements.
Collaboration
Work to promote a team dynamic with staff, including promotion of information sharing, best practices, and creative and innovative techniques that leads to successful outcomes. Foster collaboration with the Ministry and Context team and other areas including QEP and Group Leaders, Deans, and related team members, in an effort to achieve strategic, coordinated alliances with all stakeholders within the larger ITC community.
Qualifications
A terminal degree in Theological Studies, or a combination of a terminal degree in another field and a Master’s Degree in Theological Studies from an accredited institution. Examples of accepted terminal degrees are PhD, an EdD, or DMin degrees. Demonstrated success in church related and/or nonprofit activities.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Work experience in an academic/religious environment. Strong administrative experience and ministerial experience is a plus. Teaching experience in higher education.
