Nostra Aetate is a document from the Roman Catholic church that was promulgated as part of Vatican II. This year it is 50 years old, and there have been some wonderful conferences and other events marking that anniversary. Why? Because the document was a key turning point in not only the Catholic church’s but other Christian communities’ responses to faiths outside of their borders.
Several organizations have put together rich bibliographies and other resources on this document:
- Anti Defamation League bibliography
- Council of Centers on Jewish-Christian Relations resources for the celebration
- America Magazine’s set of resources
- Jan Phillips bibliography at the University of St. Thomas (search using Nostra Aetate)
Also, various members of REA have written about the document and its continuing reception:
- Clare Jardine: “Teaching about Catholic-Jewish relations: Some guidelines to assist the work of teachers in Catholic schools”
- Cyndi Nienhaus: “Nostra Aetate and the religious literacy of Catholic high school students”
- Maureen Fritz: “Nostra Aetate, a turning point in history”
- Mary Boys and Barbara Smith: “An annotated bibliography on Jewish-Christian relations”
