This is a full-time appointment to serve as the Director of Spiritual Formation for Jesuit School of Theology students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders at Santa Clara University, beginning on August 15, 2021. This position reports to the Senior Assistant Dean at JST and serves as one of three members of the Cluster for Formation and Ministry.
The Director of Spiritual Formation is responsible for the successful promotion, development and administration of spiritual formation for JST stakeholders, for preparing spiritual directors, and for supporting the liturgical life of the school, including programs and events.
- Develop a formal Spiritual Formation Program within JST-SCU to support all members of the community, collaborating with internal constituencies at JST and the main campus on a strategic plan.
- Provide spiritual direction, including direction according to the Ignatian tradition, to JST community, through retreats, programs, and direct guidance.
- Create programs to prepare spiritual directors, including direction according to the Ignatian tradition, in collaboration with JST academic program directors.
- Coordinate the liturgical life of the school, including sacristan support for the Chapel, daily masses, and special liturgical events, in collaboration with the Rector of the Jesuit Community of Berkeley and the JST Dean.
- Establish and operationalize formal Advisory Board procedures, commensurate with the strategic vision and priorities of the Spiritual Formation Program and of JST.
- Oversee and coordinate provision of spiritual formation resources to alumni, benefactors and the larger community.
- Coordinate programming with Director of Ministerial Formation and Assistant Dean of Student Life.
- Serve as an effective and respected colleague and team member at JST and a leader in relation to external publics
