The Church Divinity School of the Pacific is seeking a Director of Extended Learning who will also have a half-time faculty appointment in practical theology. The Director of Extended Learning will build upon the strengths of the established Center for Anglican Learning and Leadership (CALL) and expand its offerings in exciting ways, such as creating new programs of rigorous theological education for those serving in lay or ordained ministry and working with dioceses that are developing alternative paths for preparing congregational leaders. In the accredited academic programs, this person will share in teaching some area of practical theology—public ministry, evangelism, missiology, youth and young adult ministry, pastoral care, homiletics, or congregational studies. Additionally, this position will include offering electives in the person’s area of academic interest, which will involve teaching in the ecumenical and interreligious setting of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) at the M.Div., D.Min., and Ph.D. levels.
The successful candidate will have a broad grasp of the changing landscape of theological education and be able to articulate an innovative and compelling vision for the future that bridges the worlds of seminary and extended learning. He or she will have knowledge of the Episcopal Church; the ability to develop networks and participate in existing networks, including through the strategic use of social media; and be comfortable working with bishops and other senior diocesan leaders. Analyzing and communicating a marketable vision of the program will be a distinctive strength. He or she should hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D., Th.D., or D.Min.) and bring knowledge of online education and curriculum design, an understanding of adult learning, the ability to develop and implement educational programs, and the ability to recruit and supervise adjunct faculty.
This position is rank-open and will begin on July 1, 2015. The initial appointment will be for a three- to five-year period.
