In response to President Rick Barger’s pending retirement effective September 1, 2017, the Trinity Board of Directors last May appointed a Search Team for a new Seminary president. With the fall decision by the respective Boards of Trinity and Capital University to begin a process of reunification, the search team was broadened to include representation from Capital University and its mission evolved from that of a presidential search to a search for the Dean of the Seminary.
The new Dean will be a faithful, adaptive, interpersonally-skilled, and experienced leader. As chief executive officer of Trinity Lutheran Seminary, the new Dean will embrace and continue to bring to life Trinity’s mission of forming leaders for Christ’s Church at Work in the World. This individual will also passionately own and execute the vision and strategic direction of the Seminary as set by the Trinity board and aligned with the Capital University/Trinity Lutheran Seminary reunion plan. Trinity’s Dean will work hand in hand with the Board and will serve on the leadership team of Capital University.
The Dean will be selected by a diverse group of individuals led by Search Committee Co-Chairs the Rev. Frederick Fritz of the Trinity Board of Directors and Dr. Terry Lahm, Associate Provost at Capital. The search team includes Trinity board members and students as well as faculty from both Trinity and Capital. The team has already met several times to define the process and ensure common understanding of the skills and disposition anticipated in Trinity’s new Dean.
Nominations and applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. The candidate pool will be narrowed in the week of March 6, 2017 and applications will be accepted until a new dean is selected. The dean will be invited to begin work no later than August 1, 2017.
