Join us on Wednesday, November 1st from 7 to 10 pm ET for our informal online Fall Gathering. Once you register we will be able to send you the approriate zoom link the day before. This event is free to anyone registered, so please share it widely with your networks. Once you are registered you will receive the link to the gathering, which we will also post here at the time of the gathering.
Our plan is as follows:
- 7:00 pm ET: Welcome & Opening Prayer
- 7:10 pm ET: REA Updates
- 7:30 pm ET: Governance & Circle Process Plenary (Anne Walker & Christine Hong)
- Over the past five years, REA has worked through incredible change. The board voted in 2018 to change the governance and organizational structure. Never could that board have imagined these changes would coincide with a global pandemic that affected both the guild, its members, and the many types of institutions where they currently serve. From higher education to non-profit and religious organizations, REA’s membership is navigating rapid transformation in their daily lives and historic institutions. Alongside these changes, REA has sought to address larger issues of justice and equity. The board attempted to address growing racial and social justice concerns of women and People of Color from the United States membership, as well as members from the global majority. The board authorized a committee and consultant to make recommendations for further transformation, resulting in the hire of REA’s first Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) officer.
In this light, the 2023 REA Fall Gathering will invite circles of members to engage around three prescient concerns:- The shared work of religious education: its shifting nature, fabric, and concerns
- Living into our JEDI commitments
- How are these changes requiring us to govern, organize, and gather in different ways?
- How is the way we govern changing the way we practice RE and produce RE scholarship?
