Education for co-existence: Pedagogies of the sacred, of difference, and of hope

The fourth plenary from the 2019 Religious Education Association annual meeting, held in Toronto, ON from November 1-3 was scheduled to be the Presidential Address. Due to health challenges, the REA Program Chair and incoming President, Hanan Alexander of the University of Haifa, was unable to deliver his address. Instead, his colleague and friend, Marc Silverman, of Hebrew University, read Dr. Alexander’s paper, entitled “Education for co-existence: Pedagogies of the sacred, of difference, and of hope.”

Following this paper, HyeRan Kim-Cragg, Timothy Eaton Memorial Associate Professor of Preaching, Emmanuel College of Victoria University in the University of Toronto, and Hosffman Ospino, Associate Professor of Hispanic Ministry and Religious Education, Boston College School of Theology and Ministry, offered responses.

Boyung Lee, Academic Dean and Professor of Practical Theology, Iliff School of Theology, moderated the session.
