Event for Secondary School Teachers

Next summer, from July 16 to August 3, the Interfaith Center of New York will hold, in conjunction with Union Theological Seminary, a three-week institute for secondary school teachers entitled, “Religious Worlds of New York: Teaching the Everyday Life of American Religious Diversity.”

The institute will have two central goals:

  1. It will offer participants an advanced introduction to the religious diversity of the United States, giving them a richer understanding of the beliefs, practices, values, and histories of six religious traditions that are part of the fabric of American life;
  2. It will offer participants the theoretical and pedagogic tools they need to teach their students about “lived religion,” in addition to the conventional “world religions” curriculum that remains dominant in American secondary schools.

See the official press release or visit the institute’s website at www.religiousworldsnyc.org.
