Gala Jazz Reception

…a gift of music, poetry, and dance in the historic First Congregational Church in the heart of Atlanta

Friday, November 2, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.

First Congregational, UCC, Atlanta

The newly renovated First Congregational United Church of Christ, conveniently located across the street from our conference hotel, will be the setting for the annual REA Gala Reception, graciously hosted this year by the Reverend Doctor Dwight Andrews–musician, composer, educator, and Senior Minister at the church.

Signs will be posted and volunteers will be available to direct you to the church at 4:45.  The Reception will be followed immediately by Yolanda Smith’s plenary address in an adjacent room at the church.

Rev. Dr. Dwight Andrews

A native of Detroit, Dr. Andrews has degrees from the University of Michigan and Yale, has taught at Rice and Harvard, and is currently Associate Professor of Music at Emory University. He has been music director for seven plays on Broadway and over six films, recorded 20 albums of saxophone music, and is a legend in the field of preaching and music. In each of these capacities he thinks of himself, first and foremost, as a minister. This perspective informs the way he performs his duties in the pulpit, the classroom, and on the concert stage. We are delighted and honored to have him share his gifts at what will certainly be a very special and joyful REA Reception.
